The confiscated book contained hundreds of silk samples from French agents who were attempting to sell them illegally. Lesley Miller explains the role of the book as it relates to the European silk weaving center of Lyon. There are translations of french inscriptions, identification of how samples have migrated from one page to another and technical analysis of some of the silks. Leslie Ellis Miller, who compiled this exquisite book, is Senior Curator of Textiles and Fashion (before 1800) at the V & A., and Professor in Dress and Textile History at the University of Glawgow. fine / fine.
